Bridging Histories

I had the opportunity to volunteer at It’s About Time – A Traveling History Museum, held at the Colombo Public Library from 19th to 23rd August 2025. This unique initiative, curated to explore Sri Lanka’s post-independence histories, brought together narratives, artifacts, and collective memories that often remain overlooked in mainstream historical discourse.
Through my volunteering role, I actively engaged with visitors, supported the coordination of exhibits, and observed firsthand the transformative power of storytelling as a tool for dialogue, reconciliation, and critical reflection. What stood out most was the way history was presented not merely as a sequence of events, but as lived experiences that continue to shape contemporary realities and future pathways.
This experience strengthened my understanding of the importance of inclusive historical engagement and the need to create spaces where diverse voices and perspectives are recognized and valued. It also reinforced the role of such initiatives in fostering empathy, social cohesion, and meaningful dialogue in post-conflict contexts.
I extend my sincere appreciation to the organizing partners, including the Collective for Historical Dialogue and Memory and SCOPE Sri Lanka, along with all collaborators, for creating a platform that encourages reflection and shared understanding.
I look forward to continuing my journey of learning, volunteering, and contributing to initiatives that promote dialogue, peace building , and inclusive social development in Sri Lanka.
